3 People Deebo Samuel Can Thank For His New Deal

After a lengthy process, the San Francisco 49ers and Deebo Samuel have finally come to terms on a new deal.

This new deal keeps the multi-threat receiver in San Francisco for three more years.

With his new extension comes a huge payday for him.

The contract gets him up to $73.5 million over the three-year extension.

However, the deal he got is thanks to three people that helped pave the way for this contract.

So who are these people he can thank for this deal he now has in San Francisco?

3. DK Metcalf

Late in the NFL offseason, DK Metcalf would stage a “hold-in” to get his new contract.

Samuel would use this same tactic to get his new contract with the 49ers.

And now, like DK Metcalf, Deebo Samuel’s hold in is over and he can start practicing Monday.

However, had Metcalf and his hold-in not been successful, we might not have seen a new contract so soon.

While everything was pointing toward the star receiver getting an extension with San Francisco, the speed was increased by the move.

With him following Metcalf’s lead, he can thank him for the deal he now has with his team.

However, the money he got comes from another player who got paid when he went to his new team.

2. Davante Adams

When the Green Bay Packers sent Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, he got a new contract.

That new contract for five years was worth $141.25 million.

With him scoring this contract deal, it would open the door for many other receivers behind him.

Samuel is one of those receivers who got a large contract thanks to the Adams deal.

However, the per-year average Deebo is receiving is slightly less than what Adams got in his deal.

But even though it’s less money, the deal makes up for that with more guaranteed money in the contract.

With the three-year contract, Samuel is getting $58.1 million in guarantees with his new extension.

This makes his contract a little sweeter than those of other NFL receivers who got new contracts this year.

However, Samuel has one more person to thank for his new deal.

While the receivers are setting the bar for contract value, only one person would get that contract for Samuel.

1. John Lynch

The head guy with the 49ers has been all-in on Samuel and keeping him with the team.

He’s come out saying that he’d be a fool to trade Samuel, the team’s best offensive weapon.

Lynch clearly sees how good of a player Deebo is and has been working to keep him around.

“ I can’t ever imagine wanting to move on from Deebo. . . . He’s just too good of a player.”- @49ers GM John Lynch today. Lynch said they have had communication with Samuel in the last 2 weeks. With him being the general manager of the 49ers, he has the most power in helping Samuel get the deal he now has.

His faith in the wide receiver factors into the decision the 49ers made to extend his contract, instead of trading him.

So while other receivers paved the way for his payday, Lynch factors into the actual contract deal being made for him.

49ers fans should be happy to have him as a GM, as he sees outstanding talent in the star receiver.
