Patrick Mahomes, the cornerstone of the Kansas City Chiefs’ success, finds himself in unfamiliar territory this season, missing from the Pro Bowl roster for the first time since he became a starter.
It’s a surprising development for a quarterback who has consistently been the gatekeeper of NFL excellence, often standing between other teams and their championship aspirations.
This year’s selections have raised eyebrows, particularly because four other Chiefs offensive players, including Travis Kelce, who has experienced a relatively quieter season, were chosen to represent the AFC (the three others are linemen).
What makes Mahomes’ exclusion more notable is his role in steering Kansas City to an impressive 15-1 record, achieved with what many consider one of his less-talented supporting casts.
Former NBA player Paul Pierce recently voiced his disbelief at the situation.

Pierce’s incredulity stems from seeing a perennial MVP candidate overlooked, especially when some Pro Bowl selections might not even reach the playoffs.
The reality, however, presents a numbers game. The AFC’s three quarterback spots are occupied by Joe Burrow, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, who have all performed at an MVP-caliber level this season.
Though Mahomes’ 26-11 touchdown-to-interception ratio remains respectable, it hasn’t quite matched the standout statistics of his peers.
There’s also a touch of irony in the situation, as Mahomes often misses the Pro Bowl anyway, typically busy preparing for something bigger: the Super Bowl.
