After a wild draft process, VJ Edgecombe is now a member of the Philadelphia 76ers.
Nothing was certain for Edgecombe, and there were questions about his future all the way up until draft night.
Now he is receiving some insight into what was going on behind the scenes in Philadelphia.
Speaking with Paul George on George’s podcast, Edgecombe learned what the 76ers were thinking.
“You was safe. They reached out to us [about], ‘We got VJ [Edgecombe] coming in to work out.’ By the end of that day, they was like, ‘We know who we taking.’ That was before Ace Bailey’s stuff was going around. They felt strong, at that point, they were like, ‘We know who we taking. VJ’s our guy. Great kid. Works hard. You got the resume. The footage backs up everything.’ We knew early,” George said.

It sounds like the Sixers knew they wanted Edgecombe, even if he was in the dark.
Edgecombe didn’t know where he was going, and he wouldn’t have been surprised if a number of teams selected him in the draft.
In the end, it was Philadelphia who went for Edgecombe, taking him as the third overall pick in the first round.
Now he is coming to a Philadelphia team that needs him.
The Sixers just got through one of their roughest seasons ever, and they are hoping to look much better in 2025-26 and beyond.
They want George to be at 100 percent health, along with Joel Embiid and others.
But they also want to see that they made the right choice with Edgecombe and hope he can immediately be a vital part of the lineup.
