While recent reports suggest that the Washington Commanders are locked in at the No. 2 pick and won’t be trading down, the New England Patriots have also reportedly made clear what their intentions are with the No. 3 pick on Thursday night.
Washington appears set to select LSU’s Jayden Daniels at No. 2, but if a recent report is true, the No. 3 pick isn’t nearly as set in stone.
NBC Sports Boston’s Albert Breer said that the Pats have informed teams that are interested in trading up for No. 3 that “they’ll listen until they’re on the clock” on Thursday night, as New England reportedly wants all options on the table even if the likelihood is that the Patriots will stand pat and make their pick.

Fans have been led to believe that the trades could start at No. 4, but it’s interesting to hear that the chaos might ensue a pick earlier at No. 3 if the Patriots aren’t in love with their options in that spot.
Leaking a report like this could indicate that New England is high on Jayden Daniels and not sold on Drake Maye, who is the consensus No. 3 quarterback at this point.
Perhaps New England prefers Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy and believes they can trade down a few spots and still get their guy.
Maybe Michael Penix Jr. or Bo Nix are the quarterbacks the Patriots want and they’re happy to move down even further.
You never know what New England is up to, but it is setting the stage for a spicy Day 1 of the draft.
