Ever since Patrick Mahomes was given the opportunity to be the full-time starting quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2018, he and tight end Travis Kelce have always had a special connection whenever they’re out on the field together.
This connection has played a role in Mahomes being named the NFL MVP twice in his first six seasons in the league, Kelce earning three First-Team All-Pro selections since 2018, and the Chiefs winning two Super Bowls since 2019.
On Wednesday, Mahomes discussed how it doesn’t really matter what opposing defenses do in their attempt to shut down Kelce because it’s likely just not going to happen (via Charles Goldman on Twitter).
“I think defenses are doing their best to cover him. There’s a reason he’s Travis Kelce. He gets open vs. man, vs. zone, vs. everything. I’m just glad he’s on my team.”

In their seventh season as teammates, it seems like the connection between Mahomes and Kelce out on the field is just as strong as it has been during the last few years, if not stronger.
The Kansas City tight end and quarterback combo have already connected on 48 passes for 525 yards and four touchdowns in six games this year.
With his current numbers, Kelce is on pace to finish with over 1,300 receiving yards for the third time in the last four seasons.
As for Mahomes, he’s on pace to throw for at least 4,800 yards and 35 touchdowns for the fourth year in a row.
This dynamic combo has the Chiefs off to a very impressive start this season, as the team has a 6-1 record heading into their Week 8 contest against the Denver Broncos.
With the way things are going, there’s a good chance that Mahomes and Kelce will get an opportunity to win their third Super Bowl ring together this season.
