The Carolina Panthers haven’t had much to celebrate lately.
After making it to Super Bowl 50, they have only made the playoffs once and lost in the Wild Card Round.
Worst yet, they have had five losing seasons, including four straight from 2018 to 2021.
Two of those seasons are under current head coach Matt Rhule and having the same result might lead to his ouster.
Therefore, he hopes to generate success with the squad after making some roster moves.
The biggest change they made this offseason is to trade for former Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.
In return, the Browns get a conditional fifth-rounder in the 2024 NFL Draft which becomes a fourth-rounder if he plays 70 percent of the snaps this season.
Carolina does get an upgrade at quarterback because Mayfield is a better option than Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker.
They have a better chance of winning with him on board and that’s what’s happening during the preseason, as Panthers insider Augusta Stone shared.
Baker Mayfield with the 1s in a red zone drill and he throws a TD pass to DJ Moore
That’s what the Panthers wanna see

Stone tweeted, “Baker Mayfield with the 1s in a red zone drill and he throws a TD pass to DJ Moore. That’s what the Panthers wanna see.”
It’s a great result, but it would be greater if it happened during the games that count.
Panthers Should Translate That To Real Games
Preseason is wildly different than the regular season.
Therefore, it would matter more if Mayfield replicates that result during the games that matter.
The Panthers are in an uphill battle in their division alone because of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints.
But that’s why games are played because the underdogs can pull off an upset.
That’s what the Panthers are trying to do to energize their fanbase.
