Earlier this year, the Carolina Panthers decided to use the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to select former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young.
So far, Young hasn’t exactly been terrible, but it’s still very clear that he is a rookie, and it’s going to take some time for him to adjust to playing at the pro level of the sport.
Looking back, it’s easy to say right now that former Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud would have been a better choice to make with the No. 1 pick, given his current success with the Houston Texans.
But Panthers head coach Frank Reich recently let it be known that the team has no regrets about their selection of Young (via Joe Person on Twitter).
“We got the guy we wanted to get, and [we] couldn’t be happier about that, in every way.”

The Panthers are off to a very rough start this season with Young as their starting quarterback, as the team still hasn’t been able to win a game.
Carolina is currently 0-6 this year, and they’ve got a matchup on deck against Stroud and a surprising Texans team.
In five starts this season, Young has completed 63.2 percent of his passes, he’s thrown six touchdowns and four interceptions, he’s averaging 193.4 passing yards per contest, and he has a 78.7 passer rating.
So, obviously, not the greatest numbers for the Panthers rookie passer so far this season.
But Carolina likely expected this from Young during his first year, so they’re just letting him figure everything out by keeping him out on the field.
Plenty of legendary quarterbacks struggled during their first year or two in the NFL, and the Panthers are hoping that their guy is just going through something similar.NEXT: Panthers HC Denies 1 Notion About Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud
