It took more than two decades for the Green Bay Packers to take a wide receiver in the first round of the NFL Draft.
As such, it only made sense that expectations were significantly high for Matthew Golden.
And while he wasn’t fully unleashed right out of the gate, the rookie out of Texas has been quite impressive this season.
As pointed out by Packerfan Total Access on X, Golden has turned plenty of heads already:
“Matthew Golden scored an elite 90.4 PFF grade in week 6. He also ranks 9th in the NFL in Catch Rate Over Expected. The Golden Era has begun in Green Bay,” Clayton posted on X.

The Packers have no shortage of options in the passing game.
Even with Jayden Reed out with an injury, they have a reliable pass-catcher in Romeo Doubs.
Tight end Tucker Kraft is a perennial threat in the open field, and they will just get Christian Watson back from a torn ACL injury.
Malik Heath, Dontayvion Wicks, and backup tight end Luke Musgrave are also solid rotational pieces that could maybe even be starters somewhere else.
Nevertheless, Golden is still expected to operate as this team’s primary pass-catcher at some point not far ahead in the future.
This team has plenty of faith in him, his speed, and his dynamic skill set, and rightfully so.
Of course, it’s hard to commit to just one player when you have such a stacked roster, and these teams are usually better when everybody’s getting their touches.
Still, with the draft capital they spent on him, and given how well he’s played in his first five career games, it’s just a matter of time before this becomes Matthew Golden’s team.
