The Detroit Lions had the best season in franchise history in 2023.
They managed to win their very first NFC North Division title, and they were quite close to punching their Super Bowl ticket as well.
Life hasn’t always been easy under Dan Campbell, but it’s become more than evident that they’re heading in the right direction and should be a competitive team for years to come.
Even so, the Green Bay Packers were less than impressed by their efforts.
According to a report by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst threw a big dart at the Lions during his media availability at the NFL Scouting Combine, stating that the franchise will never hang division banners because they’re striving for a bigger prize.
“Around here, we’ve never hung banners for division championships. It’s not about that,” Gutekunst said.
Brian Gutekunst just sat down with local writers for 45 minutes. Plenty coming later, but a couple tidbits:
“Around here, we’ve never hung banners for division championships. It’s not about that.”
Does the Packers GM think they can win the Super Bowl next season?
“I do. I do.”

He also said that he’s confident in his team’s ability to win a Super Bowl as soon as next season.
That might not be that far-fetched.
Despite being the youngest team to make the playoffs since the merger, the Packers were a field goal away from taking the San Francisco 49ers to overtime, and they would’ve had a strong chance to beat their divisional rivals in the NFC Championship Game.
Of course, they still need to add more talent to their roster, and the young players must continue their development.
But this Packers team looks ahead of schedule, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see them take another big leap forward in 2024, with Jordan Love getting even better and a competent defensive coordinator.
