The Las Vegas Raiders followed up a surprising hire of Pete Carroll as head coach with an even more surprising move when they landed Chip Kelly to be their offensive coordinator on Sunday.
Kelly has bounced around quite a bit during his coaching journey.
This past season, he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Ohio State, helping the team to a National Championship.
His departure has led one of his star players to leave a heartfelt reaction to the news.
In response to the news on X, star freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith replied with a simple “Nooooo” and a broken heart emoji.

Kelly has not coached in the NFL since 2016, when he became the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
This was preceded by his rough three-year tenure as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Raiders will hope things go much better this time around because this offense cannot handle another disappointing season.
Carroll and Kelly bring extensive experience to a franchise that needs stability.
Their first task will be finding a long-term quarterback replacement.
The Raiders won a pair of games down the stretch, knocking themselves out of contention for Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders.
They’ll either have to trade up for one of them or make a splash in free agency because this franchise can’t put its fanbase through another season of Aidan O’Connell.
Maybe Kelly will convince this front office to draft OSU quarterback Will Howard.
