Last season, the NBA debuted a new award, the Clutch Player of the Year.
While that’s not exactly the most prestigious award in the game, having that clutch gene is something players take great pride in.
Conversely, struggling in the clutch often leads to mockery and criticism.
This time, one of the ultimate clutch players in the game is leading the race to run away with the award, and it’s not even that close.
As shown by NBACentral, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is the odds-on favorite to take it home this season.

Stephen Curry (GSW) -175
DeMar DeRozan (CHI) +120
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC) +2500
Nikola Jokic (DEN) +12500
De’Aaron Fox (SAC) +15000
Damian Lillard (MIL) +8000

As of now, DeMar DeRozan and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander round up the podium, followed by the likes of Nikola Jokic, reigning winner De’Aaron Fox, Damian Lillard, Dejounte Murray, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant.
This should be far from a surprise.
Steph has earned a reputation for absolutely taking over in the fourth quarter, especially late in games.
He’s got a knack for knocking down huge shots and putting rivals to sleep with his iconic celebration, and this year hasn’t been the exception to that rule.
The Warriors have been in more close games than they would want, and Curry has played his part to make sure his team stays in contention.
They have clinched a spot in the Play-In Tournament but that’s obviously not enough for a four-time NBA champion.
So, even if he wins this distinction, he’s going to be completely locked in and focused on one thing and one thing only: Another Larry O’Brien trophy.
