Nolan Arenado is about as frustrated as anybody about the struggles of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Despite having a lineup that features himself, Paul Goldschmidt, Willson Contreras, Tommy Edman, Brendan Donovan, and Jordan Walker, the team has the worst record in the National League and has once again hit rock bottom.
But after Wednesday’s loss to the San Francisco Giants, Arenado made a bold statement and listed some things that he thinks could be plaguing the Cardinals at the moment.
On Twitter, Cardinals insider Brandon Kiley posted a screenshot of Arenado’s quote from Wednesday, where he commented on what is hurting the team.
Whoa. This is quite the quote from Nolan Arenado to @katiejwoo. #STLCards

Arenado was quick to defend manager Oli Marmol, saying that he was ultimately dealt a bad hand these past few seasons.
He commented on the team’s youth and how sometimes it can be hard for a young team to click on all cylinders, even going as far as to say that if Albert Pujols wasn’t around last year, they might’ve been in a worse position than they ended up finding themselves in.
Arenado clarified that the team’s youth isn’t necessarily the problem, but he closed his statement by saying that it isn’t easy to “try to put this together.”
If one reads between the lines, then it could be argued that Arenado might be criticizing the front office for a lack of activity over the winter.
Signing Contreras was the only move they made, and the veteran catcher has struggled mightily this season.
The pitching was not addressed, and the team is feeling the effects of their quiet offseason.
