The 2023-24 NBA season-opener has come and gone, with the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets getting the best of the Los Angeles Lakers in the Mile High City while Kevin Durant’s Phoenix Suns were able to take down the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco.
Although both games were entertaining, the Nuggets and Suns were, without a doubt, the better teams in their matchups, with their best players leading the charge and helping their squads get their first win of the season.
Even though there was a bit of a revenge factor coming into this game with the Nuggets, with the Lakers hearing all the trash-talk over the summer, Los Angeles failed to show they could contend with Denver on Tuesday.
The one thing that stuck out the most for the Lakers was Anthony Davis disappearing in the second half, as he failed to score in the final two quarters when the team needed him the most.
This isn’t the first time Davis has disappeared in a game like this, and it likely won’t be the last, which has prompted Nick Wright of FOX Sports to propose the Lakers trade him to the Philadelphia 76ers for Joel Embiid, via “First Things First.”

Obviously, this is a knee-jerk reaction to the result of the first game of the season when there are 81 left to play, and everything can change between now and the end of the regular season.
However, it is an intriguing trade idea, with the 76ers potentially heading into a make-or-break year and Los Angeles trying to get the most out of the twilight of LeBron James’ career.
It’s wild to think about the Lakers already giving up on Davis after one game, but it could become a storyline heading toward the NBA trade deadline in February if he continues to struggle like this.
