The Philadelphia Eagles made a huge splash on the first day of NFL free agency.
Shortly after the tampering period started, the news broke that they had reached a multi-year agreement with Saquon Barkley.
Getting Barkley from a divisional rival was clearly a great move.
Nonetheless, as impressive as this signing may have been, sports analyst Nick Wright isn’t so sold on it.
Talking on his What’s Wright? Show, the pundit stated that signing the most expensive running back on the market was nothing but a misuse of resources by the Eagles.
“The Eagles spending this money on Saquon is a misuse of resources. It’s your friend who has a car that breaks down all the time bc it needs a new transmission getting new rims. Like that’s cool & those are nice but that’s not what was killing you last year,” Wright said.

Wright argued that the Eagles broke down last season because their defense fell apart, not because of a lack of a running game.
He’s got a valid point, and it is a fact that Saquon Barkley will always come with plenty of injury concerns.
On the other hand, you don’t get the chance to sign a talent of his caliber every day, and it’s not like they lacked the defensive personnel to be good; they were just poorly coached.
Vic Fangio should be able to revamp this defense with the resources at hand, and if Barkley is able to stay healthy, he could end up being a bargain.
