The San Francisco 49ers played host to the division-rival Los Angeles Rams in what was a crucial divisional game that Brock Purdy and company desperately needed to win.
Although the game looked like it could be a shootout between talented squads with potent offenses, the opposite turned out to be the case, as not a single touchdown was scored, with these two notable NFC West teams trading field goals all night long.
Ultimately, the Rams were able to come out on top and win a third straight game, further strengthening their chances of clinching a playoff spot and potentially winning the division title, inching closer to the Seattle Seahawks.
As for the 49ers, the immediate future looks much worse, with Kyle Shanahan’s squad now sporting a record of 6-8.
In the aftermath of the loss to the Rams, FOX Sports host Nick Wright gave some harsh thoughts on Purdy.
“The moment he was in league-average circumstances, he looks like a league-average quarterback,” Wright said on “First Things First.”

With Purdy not exactly blowing anyone away with his play this season, the 49ers will be put in a difficult position moving forward, as the quarterback likely will be looking to get paid an enormous sum with a contract extension this offseason.
Only time will tell how things pan out for the 49ers, but things aren’t looking good for Purdy and the storied franchise right now.
