The NFL’s free agency period might have just opened up, but there have already been several deals that have made fans excited about the 2024 season.
Several marquee players are on the move, including Saquon Barkley, who signed a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles moved on from D’Andre Swift, leaving a hole in their RB1 slot on the roster.
Barkley should fit into this hole nicely despite some analysts being less than pleased by this move.
Nick Wright recently appeared on “First Things First,” where he talked about this move in a few ways.
“This is not the team that should be spending almost $13 million per year on a running back,” Wright said.
"I go down the Eagles list of needs — highest-paid RB in this market's free agency isn't one of them. That's not why they lost. This is not the team that should be spending almost $13M/yr on a RB. But it's fun."

Wright believes the Eagles’ problems in 2023 stemmed far beyond the RB position and that Barkley shouldn’t have been a priority for them.
The Eagles’ secondary was one of the worst in the NFL last season, and it was particularly exposed in the back half of the regular season and the playoffs.
Despite their pressing issues last year, the Eagles still decided to pursue Barkley, a player who, at times, has been one of the best backs in the league.
If he can get back to that level of production, as Wright indicates, the Eagles offense could be “fun.”
Barkley joins an already-loaded cast on offense, which features A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Jalen Hurts.
With these four players mixed with the other talented pieces on their team, the Eagles could be a squad to watch heading into the 2024 campaign.
