The San Francisco 49ers are floundering, both in terms of wins and losses and in terms of player health, and they badly need wins in bunches right now in order to ensure they simply make the playoffs.
After getting stomped by the Kansas City Chiefs, the team that defeated them in last season’s Super Bowl, they will host the Dallas Cowboys, a team that has its own problems, in Week 8.
Niners defensive end Nick Bosa implied that this could be a timely matchup for them, given their success versus the Cowboys since he’s been in the league.
“It’s been good for us. We’ve won, I think, all of them, right? So yeah, it’s been good for us,” Bosa said, via 95.7 The Game.

The Niners-Cowboys rivalry is one of the better ones in the history of the NFL, and it stretches back to the 1970s, when the Cowboys were making their name as “America’s Team” and the Niners were working hard to gain some respectability.
The rivalry includes “The Catch” by wide receiver Dwight Clark in the NFC Championship Game for the 1981 season, and three straight matchups in the conference championship game from the 1992 to 1994 seasons, featuring Hall of Fame quarterbacks Troy Aikman for Dallas and Steve Young for San Francisco.
In the 2021 and 2022 seasons, San Francisco defeated Dak Prescott’s squad in the playoffs, first in the wild-card round and then in the divisional round. The 49ers also defeated the Cowboys 42-10 in the regular season last year.
This season, the Cowboys are just 3-3 despite possessing lots of star power.
However, they have some real roster holes and a weak running game on both sides of the football, which is something the 49ers will undoubtedly look to exploit.
