The New England Patriots made the decision to hire Mike Vrabel to be their head coach after firing Jerod Mayo once his first season was over.
Now, the team is in need of a new offensive coordinator and could turn to another familiar face.
“We’ve heard the name Josh McDaniels. I think that that name makes an awful lot of sense,” ESPN insider Adam Schefter said on “The Pat McAfee Show.”
"The offensive coordinator is a critical hire for the New England Patriots..
We've heard the name Josh McDaniels and that would make a lot of sense..
I think that Mike Vrabel is gonna hear from a lot of people before he makes that hire" @AdamSchefter #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/AFdHRXcbP1

Schefter acknowledged that there could be a list of candidates for the role that has yet to be vetted.
Whoever ends up getting the job, they will be tasked with guiding young franchise quarterback Drake Maye into the future.
The Pats are trying to get back to the days of having a productive offense, but that was when they had Tom Brady playing quarterback.
Now, they might not have Brady under center, but McDaniels was his offensive coordinator during much of the Patriots’ dynasty.
If Vrabel decides to hire McDaniels, he could use that experience with Brady to help Maye grow into an even better NFL quarterback.
The Patriots finished last in the AFC East this season, so they will be playing a last-place schedule in 2025.
With McDaniels in the fold, that could help Maye and this bottom-half offense take it to a whole new level next season.
