The number one pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.
In his four seasons with the Browns, he led the Browns to their first playoff appearance since 2002.
But apart from that season, he was mediocre.
Let’s remember, Mayfield was picked before players like Saquon Barkley and Josh Allen in the 2018 draft.
Mayfield remained with the Browns until this year when he requested a trade after the Browns signed Deshaun Watson.
It would be the Carolina Panthers who would get Mayfield, who would be in a contest with the number three pick of the 2018 draft, Sam Darnold.
His time at Carolina has simply been awful, playing their first five games this year, but only winning one of them before getting injured.
Add the fact that another quarterback by the name of P.J. Walker has had a fairly good string of performances, and Baker’s future with the Panthers was in doubt.
Until today.

It was confirmed today by Ian Rapoport that the Panthers will be releasing Mayfield.
With both Walker and Darnold having fairly good performances in the past few weeks, this is not surprising news.
Add on the fact that, while they are 4-8, they are still in playoff contention as their whole division is struggling, and that they could get a high pick in the draft if things get bad, you can see that there is no room for Baker in this setup.
So, Where Does Baker Go?
Many people are saying he should go to San Francisco to plug the gaps caused by Jimmy Garoppolo’s injury yesterday.
Time will tell if Mayfield remains in the NFL, or if it’s already the end of the road for the former Heisman winner and number one pick.
