The Jacksonville Jaguars made it past Groundhog Day with no head coach in place.
What is going on with that organization?
Plenty of fans want an answer, or have some comical ones, to that question.
The problem seems to be the fact certain candidates don’t want to work with GM Trent Baalke.
That is why the organization is focusing in on former Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman to join the front office in a leadership role.
NFL insider Mike Garafolo discussed this and offered up his favorite for the head coaching job in Jacksonville.
From @gmfb: The #Jaguars continue to work toward adding former #Vikings GM Rick Spielman to their front office. Sources tell us at @nflnetwork progress has been made, though nothing is done yet. Doug Pederson remains in the mix for the HC job. pic.twitter.com/g43SCSLzTZ

“But Rick Spielman potentially joining the Jacksonville front office. This is a guy that is highly respected around the league. I know there’s concerns about Trent Baalke amongst head coaching candidates, so this would be a plus in the minds of many candidates. And by the way, if Spielman had remained in Minnesota, the expectation was Doug Pederson was going to be high on the Vikings’ list. Pederson interviewed a second time with the Jaguars this week. You see where I’m going with this potentially, potentially, the pieces coming together in Jacksonville.”
He is quick to point out that while Pederson is now a favorite, nothing can be certain with this franchise.
Jaguars Have A Favorite Again
Pederson seems like a fantastic choice for this organization.
He won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles and started coaching in the NFL in 2009.
Basically, he is the polar opposite of Urban Meyer in terms of experience and past NFL success.
That makes him a no-brainer for this job.
The only glaring problem is if he is hung up on working with Baalke.
The only thing that could make the Jaguars search more funny would be for the Saints to hire Doug Pederson.

Why would the Jaguars even keep a GM who is so controversial to candidates?
That is an awful sign and one Jaguars owner Shad Khan is blissfully ignoring.
That, or he is truly incompetent.
Pederson would be a strong hire and would salvage this tumultuous head coaching search.
Yet if they miss out on him, 2022 will be another rough year in Jacksonville.
