Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff did not have a happy ending in his time with the Los Angeles Rams.
Rams head coach Sean McVay had grew impatient with Goff as was evidenced in his quote last January.
“Yeah, he’s our quarterback, right now,” McVay said on Jan. 17.
It wasn’t much later when the Rams agreed to trade for Matthew Stafford sending two-first round picks and a third-round pick to the Lions.
The Aftermath
NFL Insider Jay Glazer has some telling comments on what happened between Goff and McVay after he was traded.
According to Glazer:
“When the trade went down, Sean McVay called Jared Goff, Goff hung up.” “About a month or two later, Sean McVay and a bunch of coaches were in a LA restaurant.”
“Who is two tables over?” “They get sat down.” “Jared Goff.” “Eventually McVay walked over, talked to Goff for about a minute.” “And that was it”
Jared Goff and Sean McVay weren't really speaking after Goff was traded to the Lions. Months later, the 2 actually bumped into each other randomly at an LA restaurant. McVay recently expressed his feelings that he wished there was better communication when the trade went down.
“Yes, I wish there was better, clearer communication,” McVay said on Oct. 18, regarding the way that the trade went down. “To say that it was perfectly handled on my end, I wouldn’t be totally accurate in that. I’ll never claim to be perfect, but I will try to learn from some things that I can do better, and I think that was one of them without a doubt.”
Yes, the initial news and communication of the trade wasn’t handled perfectly in March. But @pschrags says @ramsnfl HC Sean McVay called Jared Goff in July and the 2 had an open and positive conversation.
