The NFL is always looking to make necessary moves to improve its game.
That is why what happened in last season’s NFC Championship Game was the worst-case scenario for the NFL.
In the second half of the San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles game, the 49ers did not have a quarterback.
Only two quarterbacks dressed for the 49ers in that game and they both got injured.
Brock Purdy injured his throwing elbow and Josh Johnson suffered a concussion.
The game was essentially over at that point as the 49ers could not throw the ball downfield.
That is why the NFL has agreed to change a rule so a team will not run out of healthy quarterbacks again.
According to Field Yates, the NFL has approved a rule that will allow each team to dress a third quarterback.

A couple important rules:
* That player must be on the 53-man roster (it cannot be a practice squad call-up)

But there are a couple of contingencies that go along with this rule.
That is that the player must be on the 53-man roster, and can only enter the game if the first two QBs are injured.
It seems like a long shot that we see this rule come into play next season.
But, it is nice to have it in place just in case a worst-case scenario happens again.
Each offseason the owners try to do the best they can to make the games as competitive as possible.
This rule should be another step in the right direction.
It will be interesting to see if any team will have to use their emergency quarterback this season.
