The Golden State Warriors recently made the headlines for the shocking trade they made.
Swapping a rising star like Jordan Poole for an aging guard with an expiring contract like Chris Paul was a risky bet, and people are still unsure about how that could work out.
Moreover, the Warriors added even more depth at the PG position by signing veteran Cory Joseph.
But instead of talking about a logjam at the position, the newcomer is just looking forward to learning from two of the greatest point guards in the history of the game.
In his introductory press conference, Joseph talked about Curry’s impact as a three-point shooter and Paul’s intelligence and dominance in the pick-and-roll, adding that he’s there for defensive purposes and that they can all coexist and feed off each other.
Needless to say, Joseph isn’t likely to be on the court for long, or at least have the ball on his hands often when Paul and/or Curry are also available.
The big question mark is whether Paul will embrace a lesser role coming off the bench, as he’s always been a starter and didn’t seem to be on board with that idea at first glance.
Paul’s style of game is an odd fit for Steve Kerr’s pace-and-space, full-motion offense.
On the other hand, he’d give the second unit a massive boost, but it might all go down to whether he’s willing to put his ego aside to finally play for an NBA championship team or not.
