In a shocking turn of events, NFL legend Bill Belichick will coach at the college level.
Belichick is the new head coach of the UNC Tar Heels, temporarily ending his legendary NFL career.
According to a report, he was still interested in coaching in the NFL.
Per Seth Wickersham of ESPN, Belichick focused on the Chicago Bears as the opening he coveted the most.
The team, on the other hand, wasn’t very interested in his services:
“According to sources with direct knowledge, the group deemed that the Chicago Bears were probably the most attractive job, but that team brass was unlikely to consider Belichick,” Wickersham said.
Multiple reports show that teams weren’t lining up to get him on the phone.
That was also the case when the New England Patriots moved on from him.
Only the Atlanta Falcons interviewed him, and they decided to go with Raheem Morris instead.
Most people assumed there would be significantly more interest in hiring him once teams started firing their coaches this season, but reports claim it wasn’t the case.
In the meantime, the 72-year-old stayed very active, engaging in multiple business endeavors, making various appearances on radio and television, and even making the rounds about his relationship with a 24-year-old.
Still, he wanted to stay close to the game, and as much as the prospect of catching Don Shula on the all-time wins list was appealing, he had to read the room.
If he wanted to coach again, he would most likely have to look elsewhere.
