The Seattle Mariners are looking for ways to improve their roster this offseason.
After a disappointing end to their 2023 season, the Mariners knew they needed to make some changes.
But, so far in the offseason they have not been aggressive to add impact players.
Yet, they did recently make a trade to add a solid hitter.
The Mariners acquired Luke Raley from the Tampa Bay Rays for infielder Jose Caballero.
But, the way Raley found out about the news was unique.
According to MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, Raley was on his honeymoon when he found out he was traded.
He said, “I was MVP of the pool volleyball game and then I got traded.”
"All of a sudden I had 20 missed calls."

Raley revealed that he had 20 missed calls when he got out of the pool and he knew something had happened.
Last season, Raley had the best year of his major league career.
He played 118 games with the Rays where he hit .249 with 19 home runs and 49 RBI.
Raley is a left-handed bat and the Mariners must have felt they could use more of that in their lineup.
But, this is a small move in the grand scheme of things.
The Mariners need to do much more if they are serious about making a run at the AL West title.
Having to go up against the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers will be no easy task.
Those two teams played in the AL Championship Series last year.
With plenty of free agents available, it would be smart for the Mariners to open their checkbooks and land an impact player.
