With Mikal Bridges gone, not many people thought the Brooklyn Nets would be able to keep up with the rest of the Eastern Conference this season.
They have a new coach, not that much talent on their roster, and most analysts think they will get rid of several veterans before the trade deadline.
However, even if that’s the case, one of their young stars has been on a roll to start the season.
Cam Thomas is living up to the hype about a potential go-to scorer, averaging 26.6 points per game on 43.2% from the floor.
More impressively, the LSU product has been the best player in the league when it comes to scoring down the stretch.
As pointed out by NBA Central on X, the young shooting guard leads the league in fourth-quarter points (77) after seven games.

Notably, he’s got 20 more points than the second-best player (LaMelo Ball, 57) in that scenario.
Unfortunately, those scoring outbursts haven’t always translated into success, as the Nets are 3-4 to start the season.
Thomas’ scoring prowess has always been his most remarkable trait, and plenty of insiders expected him to take a big leap forward now that he wouldn’t have a lot of competition for touches.
So far, so good for him, and while efficiency could be an issue and his decision-making isn’t always on point, not to mention he’s not that willing to get his teammates involved, he looks like someone who could flirt with a 30-point performance almost every single time he takes the court.
