Nestor Cortes has slowly turned into the ace of the New York Yankees.
Cortes was tapped for the start today in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Cleveland Guardians as the Yankees look to go ahead 2-0 and put themselves one win away from the ALCS.
And Cortes is certainly doing everything he can to try and get the Yankees a win.
With the bases loaded in the top of the fourth and the Yankees ahead of the Guardians, 2-1, Myles Straw came to the plate.
Straw hit a tapper back to the mound and Cortes had to leap to bring it down.
The play knocked Cortes down too, but from a sitting position, he threw Straw out at first base and the Yankees escaped a bases-loaded jam.

Nasty Nestor Strikes Again
Cortes is at it again.
He’s been the Yankees ace all season long, but evidently, he can make some pretty impressive plays and field his position quite well.
With the bases loaded, that play came at the perfect time.
It could’ve been a moment where the Guardians gained some momentum.
But Cortes put any hopes of the rally continuing to bed with his defense.
The Guardians have since come back to tie the game at two, but Cortes’ play saved the Yankees from finding themselves in a worse situation.
Cortes was practically sitting down as he made this play.
He had to jump to prevent it from going over his head, and once he brought it down, he went down with it.
But a remarkable play kept the Guardians in check.
Cortes is out of the game after five innings of two-run ball and the game remains tied.
