The rivalry between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox is one of the most historic in the history of professional sports.
For decades, these two teams have hated each other and have constantly battled for supremacy in the AL East.
However, the rivalry is pretty one sided as of now.
The Yankees are currently 10 games above the .500 mark and in possession of the third and final Wild Card spot in the American League, while the Red Sox are at .500 and five games back of the Yankees.
Boston is also at the bottom of the AL East.
When asked about the state of the rivalry between the two teams, left-hander Nestor Cortes said that the rivalry with the Red Sox has been somewhat diminished and doesn’t feel the same as their rivalry with teams such as Tampa Bay Rays or Toronto Blue Jays, per FOX Sports MLB.

Cortes explained his answer by saying that the Red Sox haven’t been the powerhouse they once were in recent years.
Since 2020, the team has finished in last place in the AL East twice.
In both of those seasons, the Red Sox also finished below the .500 mark.
They reached the ALCS in 2021 and even beat the Yankees in the Wild Card game.
But for the most part, the rivalry has been rather one sided in favor of the Yankees.
The Red Sox have only reached the postseason once since their 2018 World Series title.
New York has reached the ALCS twice.
And thus, the rivalry is slightly diminished as a result.
