The Boston Celtics are on the brink of their 18th NBA championship with a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals over the Dallas Mavericks, so it’s no wonder fans and even other players would be envious or simply tired of seeing one franchise have so much success.
One NBA star joined ESPN’s pregame show before Game 4 to share his thoughts about the series and the Celtics in general, and he did not mince words.
Philadelphia 76ers MVP Joel Embiid joined the pregame show and made his thoughts on the Celtics pretty clear, saying “I can’t stand them. I can’t stand them. I hate Boston.”

This is spoken like someone who is 0-3 against the Celtics in his career in the postseason, and after being in the league for a decade and still never having played in a Conference Finals, it can’t be fun for Embiid to see the Celtics once again on the verge of hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy.
Embiid was joined by Los Angeles Clippers star and pending free agent Paul George and made some not-so-subtle hints about recruiting George to Philly this offseason to help him get past the Celtics in the East.
Boston has been near or atop the East for decades even though they haven’t won a title since 2008, but they appear to finally be getting over the hump as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have taken their lumps over the years and have shown the growth needed to lead this team to the promised land.
Embiid has some work to do to get past Boston for the first time next year.
