At one point in time, veteran head coach Tom Thibodeau was thought to be on the hot seat in the Big Apple, as it seemed as though he didn’t have what it took to turn things around for the storied New York Knicks franchise.
Thibodeau’s coaching style was put into question, and many believed it would only be a matter of time before he lost another coaching job in the NBA, following stints with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Chicago Bulls before taking the job with the Knicks.
Although some still believe Thibodeau’s coaching methods are suspect, as he received a lot of criticism for playing his players into the ground during the NBA playoffs, there’s no doubt that he’s been able to turn this franchise back into a winner with a bright future ahead.
Even though a lot of the credit can be given to budding superstar Jalen Brunson and the team assembled by the front office in New York, Thibodeau has played his part and is deserving of a contract extension, which he will almost certainly get this summer, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
“League sources say that Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau should be viewed as a virtual certainty to score a contract extension this off-season ‘at the market rate,’ which translates to an annual wage of at least $10 million,” Stein said (via New York Basketball on Twitter).

Thibodeau has helped build a tough and scrappy culture in New York, resulting in the team being a force to be reckoned with once again in the Eastern Conference.
That said, much like Mike Brown recently with the Sacramento Kings, Thibodeau will get a lucrative deal this summer and will continue to try to build this team into a title contender.
