The NBA world was shocked late Tuesday night when it was revealed that Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors would be suspended for one game due to his stomping of Domantas Sabonis in Game 2 of the playoffs.
This was surprising given that most people thought he would receive no more than a fine.
It was also surprising because the Warriors are down 2-0 against the Sacramento Kings.
A lack of Green in the next game means that they could be down 3-0 very soon, which would all but assure their demise in the opening round.
NBA Executive VP Joe Dumars talked to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN about Green’s punishment.
Dumars to ESPN on weighing the circumstances of the Warriors down 2-0 to the Kings in the series: “You know what the situation is, but you have to set that aside and look at the facts in front of you…Repeat offender weighs as heavy as anything.” https://t.co/8pueVedwyb

“Here’s what it came down to: Excessive and over-the-top actions, conduct detrimental and a repeat offender. That’s what separates this where you end up with a suspension.”
How did Dumars feel about suspending Green for such a pivotal game for his team?
“You know what the situation is, but you have to set that aside and look at the facts in front of you…Repeat offender weighs as heavy as anything.”
This is very concerning for the Warriors and could greatly impact their future plans with Green.
There was already a lot of speculation about what’s next for Green and his team.
Will they re-sign him in the summer or will he cut ties when they refuse to offer him a deal he wants?
Green is a divisive figure in the league but the Warriors have been okay with that for years.
But the phrase “repeat offender” is surely bothering them.
It’s now at the point where his years of offenses are catching up with him and the league is considering what he’s done in the past when they determine punishments for the present.
That puts the Warriors in a very tricky spot.
Has Green become a liability for the team?
If so, why would they choose to keep him around?NEXT: Fans React To Draymond Green's Suspension
