The Los Angeles Lakers just got two solid reinforcements.
Anthony Davis is finally back on the floor after spending plenty of time injured, as per usual, and they traded for Rui Hachimura as an insurance policy at both forward spots.
Moreover, even though it seems like they’re far behind in the playoff race, the Western Conference is actually a bit of a battle, and all teams still have a realistic shot at making the postseason.
GM Rob Pelinka claimed that they’re not done making moves just yet, and they still have Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley‘s contracts, as well as two future first-round picks to use in any trade.
With that in mind, NBA analyst Jay Williams believes the Lakers should go all-in to try and get Fred VanVleet, who might be then ‘missing link’ this team has craved this season:
“I think Fred VanVleet can be one of the missing links for this team that can add to everybody personnel-wise on their roster,” Williams said on ESPN’s Get Up.
Fred VanVleet to the Lakers? 🤔 @RealJayWilliams

VanVleet would be a significant defensive improvement over Westbrook.
He’s a tough combo guard who can play on and off the ball, create for others, and stretch the floor with his shot-making ability.
He’d also be under team control for the foreseeable future and would be a much better fit next to LeBron and Davis than Westbrook, Beverley, and/or Dennis Schroder.
The Toronto Raptors are likely to be sellers ahead of the deadline, and they have no use for a veteran like him as they look to get younger for the future.
So, if he’s indeed available, Rob Pelinka should do whatever’s in his power to get a deal done.
