The New York Jets are looking to get a new general manager and head coach.
Bill Belichick, who had plenty of experience at both, was available.
Surprisingly, given their bitter history with one another, the New England Patriots legend wanted to get the job.
According to a report by Dianna Russini of The Athletic (via Albert Breer), Belichick even contacted former Jets executive Mike Tannenbaum to get the job.
Tannenbaum got back to team owner Woody Johnson, and while the Jets mulled the possibility, UNC swooped in to lure Belichick to Chapel Hill.
More on what @DMRussini reported—Bill Belichick reached out to Mike Tannenbaum to express interest in the Jets job. Jets mulled it, worked to set up Belichick and Woody Johnson to talk. Then, things at UNC accelerated.
Timing simply didn't work out to explore it further.

Simply put, Belichick teased the Jets for the second time in history to take another job shortly after.
It would’ve been ironic and borderline comical to see Belichick now coaching the very same team he kept his foot down on for decades.
Also, Belichick never minced his words on the Jets, even calling out Woody Johnson on Monday Night Football this season.
The legendary head coach will redefine “overqualified” during his time with the Tar Heels.
Some reports claim that NFL teams were no longer interested in his services, which isn’t much of a surprise, as the GM-HC figure is a dying breed in the league.
We will never know whether the Jets would have eventually been interested in interviewing him.
