Starting next week, MLB is going to have somewhat of a different look to it.
It won’t be anything too drastic, but for many fans, this is a welcome change for the game.
MLB umpires are going to have microphones and use them to address replay decisions to the crowd during games, very similar to how referees in the NFL operate.
Sweeny Murti of WFAN tweeted his opinion on the matter, saying that this is a much-needed change for the game of baseball and that as a result of this change, fans will likely be able to better understand the outcome of replay decisions.
Major breakthrough for baseball fans. Starting next week MLB umpires will now use a microphone to announce replay review decisions to the crowd. NFL style. This is a welcome change and will help fans better understand the outcomes.

A Welcome Change
Often times in baseball, it can be confusing for fans trying to understand replay decisions when such a situation arises.
This will hopefully help provide some clarification and help fans understand what is going on when umpires make their decisions on replay situations.
When the umpires are huddled together for a challenge or a replay situation, it’s sometimes hard to know what they are looking at unless fans are watching the game on TV.
Even then, it can still be confusing, as it isn’t always clear what the umpires are reviewing when the situation arises, and a review is needed.
Again, NFL referees have microphones and address the crowd when there is a flag, a foul, or a moment that requires a replay or a challenge of some sort.
Fans will hopefully be able to better understand what is happening in games as a result of this change.
There needs to be some more clarity for fans who are watching and want to understand what is happening.
We’ll see how the baseball “purists” react to this change.
