It’s been since last July that Carlos Martinez took the mound for a start.
He left that game early due to an injury and was never seen again in a St. Louis Cardinals uniform.
Once an All-Star, Martinez has fallen on hard times.
He had brief stints in the minor league systems of the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox before being released.
He was then issued an 80-game suspension earlier this season thanks to a positive drug test.
Now, Martinez is in more hot water, according to Ken Rosenthal.
The veteran right-hander has been issued an 85-game suspension without pay retroactive to June 19 for violating MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy.

Martinez Issued 85-Game Ban
If his career wasn’t already over, this probably the kiss of death for Martinez’s baseball days.
Injuries had derailed him and cost him a spot in the Cards rotation before they ultimately let him go.
Now, having been through two minor league systems and gotten nowhere, plus being handed two large suspensions, it looks like we’ve seen the last of Martinez as a player.
This is not good news for him and if the Trevor Bauer situation taught us anything, that means that Martinez might have just blown his last chance.
It’s sad, considering how dominant he once was, but he’s had a couple missteps lately which have proven to be costly.
This one might just be the nail in the coffin for Martinez’s career.
If this is it, then Martinez finishes his career with a 62-52 record and a 3.74 ERA.
We’ll see what happens next, but given that MLB has decided to give harsher punishments for things such as domestic violence, we may never see Martinez pitch again.
