The Houston Astros parted ways with general manager James Click after winning the World Series last weekend.
Click will not be returning for the 2023 season: several media outlets and the Astros themselves have confirmed the news via Twitter.
MLB insider Bob Nightengale has explained what happened between owner Jim Crane and Click.
“Houston #Astros owner Jim Crane, despite their differences, knew he had to make GM James Click an offer after winning the World Series. Crane also made an offer that he probably knew Click would reject. It’ll be intriguing how many front office employees hired by Click will stay,” he tweeted.

Click was effectively fired, just a few days after giving the Astros their second World Series championship.
Click Deserves A Lot Of Credit, Too
The organization is stacked with excellent (and young) players from the Jeff Lunhow era, but Click also contributed a lot to building this year’s elite bullpen, among other things.
He also extended Yordan Alvarez and while Trey Mancini didn’t quite work out, he represented nice veteran leadership.
Despite Crane and Click having their differences, the news is still quite shocking.
Click had only been with the team for three years, and made an American League Championship Series and two Fall Classics, with one victory.
He spent 15 years in the Tampa Bay Rays organization preparing himself for a future GM role, and now that he got one and achieved the main objective, he won’t be back for next season.
There surely will be plenty of interest out there for Click.
Several contenders might be looking for a top executive to lead them, and Click is prepared to do just that.
