The last few hours have been filled with turmoil for the New York Yankees.
It was revealed over the weekend that their relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman wouldn’t be a part of the playoff roster as a disciplinary measure for missing a mandatory workout on Friday.
The team also fined him and is exploring other disciplinary measures, but Chapman’s time with the Yankees is most likely over with free agency looming.
MLB insider Bob Nightengale offered some details of the Chapman-Yankees communications breakdown.
“Yankees pitcher Aroldis Chapman said he would attend their mandatory workout if he definitely was going to be on their postseason roster. The Yankees could not give him that assurance. Chapman stayed home in Miami. The Yankees told him to stay there. His Yankee career is over,” Nightengale tweeted.

Chapman Wanted To Force The Yankees Into Giving Him A Playoff Roster Spot
Long story short, Chapman wanted to force the Yankees into giving him a spot on the postseason roster even though he clearly didn’t deserve one.
His professionalism and work ethic are very much in question after how he acted in the last few days.
Performance, in addition, also isn’t on his side.
Chapman’s 4.46 ERA is one of the worst marks of his career, and he is just not reliable anymore: he lost the ability to locate his fastball, and his whole performance suffered as a result.
He has been hurt a lot and had to miss time near the end of the season with a leg infection stemming from a tattoo.
The Yankees are probably better off without him on the roster, as he could give way to a much more consistent reliever like Miguel Castro or Albert Abreu.
