The trade deadline is fast approaching.
As the MLB standings start to take shape, it is becoming clearer as to which teams will end up being buyers or sellers.
The buyers’ market may feature some teams that we didn’t expect to see contend this season.
Teams such as the Cincinnati Reds, Miami Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Baltimore Orioles have outperformed expectations to date and may find themselves in the market for some upgrades.
MLB.com reporter Sweeny Murti stopped by High Heat with Christopher Russo and discussed the possibility of these teams becoming buyers as opposed to being sellers when the deadline comes.

Murti noted that several of these teams typically do not spend much money on free agents during offseasons.
However, he did note that their strategy of building a contending roster from within appears to be working, as it has gotten them through almost half of the season.
These teams are often teams that bigger-market clubs attempt to buy from at trade deadlines, adding pieces to supplement their roster while giving the smaller-market clubs some young talent for the future.
Murti pointed out that selling at the deadline has become rare given that there are 12 playoff spots now, but that some of the aforementioned teams have plenty of young talent to trade from if they ultimately decide to add some supplemental pieces.
He also pointed out that it might be good for the game to see some of these teams add rather than subtract at the deadline and shake up the postseason race.
