The Chicago Cubs are a team that has made a few improvements this season, even after losing Willson Contreras.
They added Cody Bellinger, Trey Mancini, Dansby Swanson, and Jameson Taillon to bolster their roster.
However, they are about to receive another reinforcement in top prospect Matt Mervis.
The young first baseman was recently called up to the big-league club and is set to help the Cubs win some games in 2023.
ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, a Chicago-based journalist who covers the Cubs, stopped by MLB Network to talk about what Mervis brings to the table for the Cubs and how he can help the team win.

Rogers spoke with Alanna Rizzo, who noted that with the power Mervis possesses, there hasn’t been this level of excitement about a prospect since Anthony Rizzo first joined the team.
She asked Rogers to explain why that was the case.
Rogers talked about how Mervis has shown a lot of potential in a very short period of time.
The Cubs also don’t have too many left-handed bats outside of Bellinger.
Mervis provides power from the left side of the plate.
Rogers also discussed the journey Mervis has experienced.
He struggled in 2021, but made some key improvements in 2022 and became a star at the minor league level.
Mervis hit 36 home runs in 2022 and improved his walk-to-strikeout ratio.
This season, he has walked 18 times and struck out just 19 times.
Mervis is a player the Cubs are very excited about who could help them make noise in the NL Central.NEXT: Jameson Taillon Took Part In A Special Cubs Moment
