Last year, New York Yankees All-Star Aaron Judge led a pursuit of Roger Maris’ record for most home runs in a single season in the American League.
He ended up successfully establishing a new record with 62 round-trippers, and the new mark was celebrated all around the league.
This year, Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani has hit 35 homers to this day.
It’s an impressive pace, not too far from where Judge was last year.
Could it be?
Could Ohtani establish a new record just one year after Judge’s efforts?
MLB’s official Twitter account detailed what he needs to do to achieve his goal.
“Shohei Ohtani needs 28 HR in 65 games to break the AL home run record. Will he do it?”, they tweeted.

They also included a quote from Judge from a couple of days ago.
Currently on the shelf with a torn ligament in his right big toe, Judge was asked what he thought about Ohtani having a concrete chance to break his record.
“Records are meant to be broken”, he said, classy and mature as he is.
We are sure the late Maris would have loved to watch Judge’s pursuit last year and would be proud of Ohtani if he manages to make one of his own.
A home run chase for Ohtani this season would be a dream scenario for MLB, and it’s a real possibility since the two-way player is highly motivated to put up the best possible numbers.
He will hit the market after the World Series and will be a very rich man in a matter of months.
