With Detroit Tigers legendary slugger Miguel Cabrera just one hit shy of reaching the 3,000-hit plateau, it’s time to take a look at the list of active career hit leaders in MLB.
Cabrera is second on the list, trailing only Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals.
But as we look at the list of active players who have the most career hits, something stands out.
The closest to Cabrera is New York Mets veteran slugger Robinson Cano, who is 39 and sitting at 2,629 career hits.
Yadier Molina, Joey Votto, and Nelson Cruz are next on the list, with Cruz having not even reached the 2,000-hit mark.
Needless to say, it’s going to be a long time before we see another player reach 3,000 hits, as Cano, Molina, Votto, and Cruz are all around 40 years old.
Miguel Cabrera might be the last player in a while to reach 3,000 hits.
Oddly enough Robinson Cano has an outside shot to reach 3,000 hits.

A Long Time Coming
It’s going to be tough to have to wait for that.
Cano has a slim chance at reaching 3,000, but it’s highly unlikely.
We’re going to have to wait a long time before another player reaches 3,000 hits.
It’s rare to see anyway, but it’s going to become even rarer for such a feat to be accomplished.
Perhaps 2,500 will become the new 3,000.
There’s definitely a chance for Molina, Votto, and others to reach that milestone.
But in all seriousness, watching somebody reach 3,000 hits is special.
Baseball never shortchanges us when it comes to historic moments and there are definitely more historic moments coming.
We’re just going to have to wait a while for the next player to reach 3,000 hits, and that’s going to be a tough pill to swallow after Cabrera reaches the historic milestone.
There’s always 2,500 hits though.
That’s an attainable milestone.
