As the 2023 MLB season approaches, now is a good time to talk about the best hitters in the game today.
When you think about a “best hitter,” it typically means that said hitter can hit for power and average and put together MVP-caliber seasons.
Two names that come to mind are Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge.
But there are obviously other great hitters that cannot be overlooked.
Reigning National League MVP Paul Goldschmidt is aging, but is still capable of hitting some homers.
With that being said, MLB.com writers chose to rank their top 10 hitters for the 2023 season.
On Twitter, a graphic was posted featuring the rankings.

Judge was at the top.
He nearly won a Triple Crown in 2022 after breaking the single-season American League home run record.
His efforts were enough to earn him MVP honors.
Three-time AL MVP Mike Trout was second.
Rounding out the top half of the list were Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez, San Diego Padres slugger Juan Soto, and Goldschmidt.
But there are no soft spots on this list.
The bottom half is just stacked as the top half.
Ohtani came in at No. 6 after following up his MVP season with another spectacular year.
Freddie Freeman comes in at No. 7 after Ohtani.
Rounding out the bottom three spots in order are Manny Machado, reigning AL Rookie of the Year Julio Rodriguez, and Goldschmidt’s St. Louis Cardinals teammate and fellow MVP finalist Nolan Arenado.
These are the best hitters the game has to offer as of now, but there could be some new names that appear on the list as the season progresses.
