Being an MLB umpire is tough: there is no question about it.
However, there should be a certain quality standard when umpiring an MLB game.
Fans tend to pile on umpires because they usually think they are to blame for their team losing.
Truth be told, there are many excellent umpires in MLB, led by Pat Hoberg.
However, just as Hoberg is the gold standard, Angel Hernandez has become a problem.
Codify Baseball posted a clip of his most recent performance and it was filled with missed calls.
He hit rock bottom this week, though.
“Yesterday, Ángel Hernández had the lowest single-game accuracy rate calling balls and strikes of any MLB umpire in the last 5 years (according to @UmpScorecards) and I’m not even kidding,” Codify tweeted.

The video evidence doesn’t lie.
It’s important to note that the TV zone is not necessarily the same used by umpires in games.
However, some of Hernandez’s calls weren’t even close.
It’s fair to point out that some umpires are actually good at what they do.
Hernandez is, evidently, not in that group.
He has also had clashes with the league, players, managers, coaches, and many other actors of the baseball industry.
There is a reason why his last World Series game came in 2005: he isn’t particularly close to being part of the group that deserves that honor.
Even fans have come to identify as one of the worst umpires in baseball, and he frequently rates poorly in polls conducted by media and publications.
The league might have an Angel Hernandez problem on its hands.
