Today is an important date in the sports universe, not just MLB: we celebrate the National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).
NGWSD began in 1987, and it’s a date in which we all celebrate achievements and accomplishments by women in the sports world.
Not only are their achievements recognized, but the day is also a good way to raise awareness and calls for gender equality.
Women have an extremely positive influence in sports participation, yet consistent opportunities for them to develop a career and make a living off it are still, as we start 2023, not quite there.
Women have slowly, but surely gained a lot of ground in MLB front offices and coaching staffs in recent years, though.
MLB joined the NGWSD celebrations and posted some of their most influential women.

From Kim Ng, the first woman to be the general manager of an MLB team, to Rachel Balkovec, the first woman to manage a minor league team, lots of them have made an impact in baseball and in the league.
MLB also featured Ronnie Gajownik, Genevieve Beacom, Alyssa Nakken, Andrea Hayden, Olivia Pichardo, Kelsie Whitmore, Eri Yoshida, Justine Siegal, Mamie Johnson, Jessica Mendoza, Effa Manley, and several more.
We also have prominent women in analysts roles, as reporters, agents, and lots of talented baseball and softball players.
It’s always good news when a woman gets an important job with an MLB team, or covering the league.
These women are talented professionals who can make a difference if given the chance.
