The Dallas Cowboys might not have a head coach for much longer.
Mike McCarthy’s contract with the organization is set to expire soon, and as such, he could be a free agent who could sign with any team.
There have been countless rumblings and rumors about what the Cowboys might do with this situation.
McCarthy seemed to be on the hot seat to enter the season, and more so after a slow start to the campaign.
The team rallied and looked much better after Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending injury.
The players’ hard work and competitiveness made it seem as if they wanted him to stay.
Moreover, it seems like he also wants to run it back.
When asked about his future, McCarthy had a blunt response about being a winner and having won there already (via Jon Machota):
“I don’t like to talk about myself. But I’ll just be clear. I’m a winner. I know how to win. I’ve won a championship. I’ve won a championship in this building. And that’s who I am. We’ll see where it goes.”

For years, fans and analysts have criticized him for still living off of that Super Bowl win.
Some argue that Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers won that ring despite him, not thanks to him.
Even so, it seems like the players truly want him back.
Whether Jerry Jones will decide to listen to his locker room or take matters into his own hands remains to be seen.
Still, with most top-notch candidates already scheduling interviews elsewhere, the Cowboys might have no choice but to bring him back if they don’t act fast.
Whatever they do, they will still have a tough time improving their roster with their current salary cap situation.
