The last few weeks have been a roller coaster ride for veteran quarterback Daniel Jones, who went from getting benched in favor of Tommy DeVito to being let go by the New York Giants in a surprising in-season move.
With Jones getting released, teams around the league had an opportunity to pick him up on waivers, but considering the size of his contract and all the questions about whether he is a viable starter, he cleared waivers unclaimed.
Jones is now officially a free agent and is expected to draw interest from teams looking to bolster the quarterback position with a player who has experience as a starter in the NFL.
Former NFL player Mike Golic said he thinks that a handful of teams make sense for Jones if he’s content with being a backup moving forward, but if he’s determined to get another starting job, the Las Vegas Raiders could be where he lands.
“For the rest of this year, does he back up a playoff team for the [Arizona] Cardinals, for the [Denver] Broncos, for the [Los Angeles] Chargers, for the [Minnesota] Vikings? He wants to be a starter somewhere, and there are plenty of teams out there. Say, the Raiders. Instead of going after a young quarterback in the draft, you now are putting all your eggs in the Daniel Jones basket,” Golic said, via GoJo and Golic.

The 2024 season has been an absolute disaster for the Raiders, as it seems as though nothing has gone right, and things got that much worse in Week 12 with the team losing starting quarterback Gardner Minshew to a season-ending injury and losing to the Denver Broncos for a second time this season.
With Minshew out, the Raiders have a need at quarterback, even if Aidan O’Connell comes off injured reserve to play behind or ahead of Desmond Ridder.
