The Washington Commanders were in a prime position to make a big push at the trade deadline, so they did.
They got one of the best cornerbacks in the game by trading for Marshon Lattimore.
The New Orleans Saints waved the white flag with this move, which isn’t surprising, considering their record and the fact that they’ve already parted ways with Dennis Allen.
When asked about that, Saints GM Mickey Loomis claimed that the team thought they got a solid return for their defensive star (via Matthew Paras):
“He is still one of the better corners in our league and Washington is getting a good player for their playoff push here and their run, so I wish him nothing but the best,” he said.

The Commanders had draft capital to spare.
They sent a 2025 third, fourth, and sixth-round pick in return for the Pro Bowler and a 2025 fifth-round pick.
The Saints took Lattimore with the No. 11 pick out of Ohio State in 2017.
He’s made 97 career appearances (all starts), logging 405 tackles, 88 pass breakups, 15 interceptions, five forced fumbles, and two pick-sixes.
The former Defensive Rookie of the Year has logged 30 tackles and two pass breakups in seven games this season, and he will give the Commanders’ secondary a proven veteran presence to solve some of their woes on that end of the field.
The Commanders have been the most surprising team in the league, with a 7-2 record.
They have already won more games than last season and look like a legitimate dark horse to come out of the NFC.
This move only makes them stronger candidates in the division.
On the other hand, the Saints will continue to focus on fixing their salary cap situation and planning ahead for the future.
