Michael Porter Jr. is on the verge of his first season with the Brooklyn Nets.
But according to new comments from him, he may not be in the league for much longer.
Speaking to the press, Porter opened up about just how tough it is to be an NBA player and cast a shadow of doubt on his future.
“I decided: all I’m going to do is take it a year at a time. So I’m committed to basketball and putting my all into it for the next year. And then after that, I’m gonna reevaluate,” Porter said.
Michael Porter Jr. says he doesn’t know how much longer he wants to play and plans to take it year by year

One year at a time is the right approach for someone who has suffered as many injuries as Porter.
He knows that these injuries can get worse as time goes on, and there may come a time when he simply cannot play like he wants to.
He compared himself to Ben Simmons, another NBA player whose future is a question mark right now.
Porter believes that his heart is in the game, but he cannot force his body to keep up with this crushing pace and physical exertion forever.
The Nets were hoping that Porter could bring some experience and championship know-how to the team.
He will do that, but there is no guarantee that he will do it for a very long time.
