The Atlanta Falcons made a surprise announcement earlier this week by naming Michael Penix Jr. as their starter for the remainder of the season.
This relegated Kirk Cousins to the bench, a player they were extremely confident in during the offseason.
Cousins might be owed a large sum of money from the Falcons, but at the moment, that doesn’t seem to matter.
The front office and coaching staff want to see what they have in this rookie QB, so Penix will get an opportunity to showcase his skills.
Penix will make his debut on December 22nd against the New York Giants.
The Giants could be a great opponent for Penix to get his feet wet against, as they have struggled to gain momentum this year.
Penix spoke to the media ahead of this favorable matchup, as Bryce Lewis noted on X.
“I feel like we got the best fans in the league, so I feel like we should always put on a show for them… I gotta find a way to connect with the fans and for us it’s about winning football games. That’s what everyone wants to see,” Penix said.

He seemingly believes that he has what it takes to succeed in the NFL, and has been waiting for his chance.
Cousins’ loss is his gain, and he’ll aim to take over the starting job and not want to give it back.
The Falcons have some talented skill-position players on offense, so if he is comfortable and calm in his debut, Penix could get off to a hot start.
