On Monday, as many anticipated, the Dallas Cowboys parted ways with Mike McCarthy after he had been their head coach dating back to 2020.
The speculation on who will be their next head coach has begun in earnest, and Deion Sanders, their former star defensive back from the 1990s, has reportedly talked to them about their head coaching opening.
Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin, Sanders’ former teammate in Dallas, said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that he wants Sanders to be the team’s next head coach while talking about his memories of Sanders’ son.

Sanders was one of the NFL’s greatest cornerbacks back in the day, as well as one of the few two-sport stars in American history, and upon coming to the Cowboys for the 1995 season, he teamed with Irvin to deliver the franchise its third Super Bowl championship in four seasons.
That was the last time the Cowboys won it all or even got to the NFC Championship Game, and as a result, they have been a bit of a laughingstock for NFL fans in modern times.
Sanders has done an excellent job as the head coach of the University of Colorado Boulder over the last two years, and it has led to speculation in recent months that he could jump to the NFL.
The present-day Cowboys have plenty of star power, but they’re also saddled with an expensive and top-heavy roster that won’t be easy to augment due to their lack of salary cap flexibility, and therefore their next head coach may not be fully in control of their results, especially considering how hands-on owner Jerry Jones is.
